AGV
According the International Federation of Robotics – IFR the automated guided vehicles (AGV) is used to transport materials or people without an human driver to at the work place. There are two ways to call these kind of robots and they are the are autonomous mobile robots (AMR) and the mobile industrial robot (MIR).
The AGVs’ use is an elegant solution for the movement of materials in an industrial environment where it integrates information to the management production system increasing the partners’ security and optimizing the materials and personal management. For example, an AGV which carries the waste in a factory can also estimate how the factory stock is, the production workflow and to prepare the others sectors for the future tasks. The transmitted datas from the device can make the users able to verify the rout even beyond the system. Furthermore the device can play a significant role in the human workers’ ergonomics.
The LSE has conducted researches to develop low-cost AGVs using open-source solutions and commercially available hardwares.
